about

From Stockholm sails the majestic Bolivian fireships, bringing you ten pieces of home-spun and field-gathered ambient electronica to enrich your shores. Hrea'm Recordings say "welcome in!".

Bolivian Fireships is the nom de plume of James Buchanan, a sound artist and noisemaker resident in Stockholm, Sweden. James is also behind J.G.Sparkes; an artist referred to as a creator of "deep ambient sound and light from a place between dreams and reality" by Waltz founder Taro Tusunoda, and is a founding member of the elusive radiophonic explorers The Wyndham Research Institute, alongside renowned producer LessThanOne.

He has released music on labels such as Do You Dream Of Noise?, Mystic Timbre, TQn-aut, Doomstund and Wormhole World and has now been warmly welcomed into the Hreám Recordings stable for this release, his second as Bolivian Fireships.

James operates out of the Tardis-like studio Regular One in the nothern european city of Stockholm. The studio, named after the unfortunate research station from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (a continual infuence) is home to a rotating squad of instruments and noise making tools and
implements. From here, Buchanan alchemises digital and analogue recording methods in an attempt to allow the creation of timeless music and sound.

Bolivian Fireships began as an attempt to return to the electric guitar as primary source of audio. This is still the case but the resultant sounds have been augmented with treated voice, no input mixers as
well as dilapidated magnetic tape machinery and ancient yamaha sampling keyboards. This music, created in an angle-poise lit room with deer roaming outside the window, is best heard in the enclosed space that headphones create.
